Bombardier, NBAA, EBAA Launch European Safety Standdown At Ebace

Montreal, April 05, 2007

Bombardier Aerospace, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) today announced that the highly acclaimed Bombardier Safety Standdown, held annually in Wichita, Kansas, since 1996, will also take place this year in Europe.

The European Safety Standdown is scheduled to be held on Friday, May 25, in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Crowne Plaza Geneva Hotel, following the conclusion of the 7th annual European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE).

“The Bombardier Safety Standdown is designed to make every single pilot – regardless of what type of aircraft they fly – more aware and therefore safer, by exposing them to information that is critical for safe flight and otherwise not offered in any other structured program,” said Bob Agostino, director flight operations, Bombardier Business Aircraft and creator of Safety Standdown. “Over the past decade, Safety Standdown has evolved into one of the largest and most comprehensive safety conferences in the industry. We, along with our EBAA and NBAA colleagues, think the time is right to expand and offer the program to the growing European aviation community.”

Safety Standdown Europe is a first-of-its-kind safety program developed primarily for professionals in the business aviation community. To date, no other safety event held in Europe has focused so exclusively on this industry. “Safety is a top priority for business aviation and a focus at this year’s EBACE. This superb initiative can benefit all European operators – indeed, the entire aviation community,” declared EBAA chief executive officer Brian Humphries. “I encourage pilots and flight department managers to extend their visit to EBACE and attend this first-ever European event to discover first-hand how they may apply the latest intelligence about safety to their operations.”

Safety Standdown’s pioneering approach to safety training focuses on developing the human half of the man-machine interface. By identifying and researching shortfalls in traditional skills-based training, the seminar provides pilots, aircrew and flight departments with insight into those factors that precipitate errors in judgment and highlights ways to mitigate them.
