EMBRAER OFFERS ELECTRONIC FLIGHT BAG (EFB) TO EQUIP ITS

Embraer announces that it will be equipping the flight decks of its E-Jets commercial family and its Legacy 600 and Lineage 1000 business jets with the PilotView® class II Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system by CMC Electronics.

This system is optional for Embraer aircraft and consists of a compact, lightweight device with two display/processor units (Electronic Display and Processing Unit – EDU) and may replace conventional pilot’s flight bag contents, such as check-list procedures and maps. It can be provided with the Embraer Portable Operational Package (EPOP), a program that allows performance, weight & balance calculation and access to operational publications.

“After an extensive evaluation, CMC’s PilotView® has proven to be the most suitable EFB system to equip our aircraft,” said Mauro Kern, Embraer Vice-President for Airline Market Programs. “With the EFB system, our aircraft will offer customers a modern tool that will enhance cockpit procedures by bringing flexibility, precision and optimization to pilots´ dispatch and in-flight activities.”

The PilotView® EFB system supports a multitude of applications, such as navigational charts, taxiway maps, checklists, real-time weather information, video (from surveillance cameras or enhanced vision systems), and others. The dual EFB system has 8.4” touch screens with exceptional readability under all cockpit ambient light conditions and allows pilots to exchange each other’s display views with a single key touch. In addition, it comes with an extendable keyboard and is capable of information updating via ground data-link through either a wireless network or a GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) connection.

“CMC’s PilotView will offer quick and more precise performance calculations,” said Hermann Ponte e Silva, Embraer Vice-President for Executive Jets Programs. “The EFB will provide customers with a paperless cockpit, upon local airworthiness authority approval.”

The first customer to order the new system is Northwest Airlines, which recently announced the acquisition of 36 EMBRAER 175 jets, with deliveries scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2007.
